I love the simplicity of the gospel. The miracle of fresh starts is one we all need, and have access to, and remains the unchanging truth amidst our shifting world.
What a beautiful way to explain the gospel to children and to ourselves. Thank you for sharing this in the midst of postpartum chaos and family transition!
Our boys love all the gory and dark details of Good Friday. I'm hoping for more tender conversations about it, because right now their tiny reservoirs of testosterone just think it's super hardcore. :')
Rachel, God is using your gift of writing to flow through your fingers in the middle of all the hard and holy happening in your home (sorry about the alliteration) and I want to encourage you that Jesus is shining through.
Hilde's reactions to her new brother are so like those my three-year-old niece Madelyn is currently experiencing with the arrival of her brother, Ezra. One moment, the prodigality of love, showering him with affection, taking pride in their mutual association. The next day, why are things different? I'm not sure I like this baby brother thing. So on and so on the cycle goes, with more good days than bad ones. It's the natural way of life, especially when a pretty girl has to welcome a stinky boy!
“…when it comes to others, I just want them to do the right thing the first time. Or at least the second. Fresh starts are easy to receive, but difficult to hand out.”
Oof. I have felt this so many times as a parent. May God grant me forgiveness for all the times I fail to forgive.

Needed this today. Beautifully written.
As I walk through the teen years, this has been our daily mantra.
Stop. Breathe. Start again.
Today's behavior does not determine tomorrow's, and good habits take practice.
If you don't get it today, you may see it tomorrow, or a week later, or 6 months, but every fresh start lets it steep deeper and deeper in.

Oh my goodness! The gospel for toddlers! So very precious. Bless you!
Beautiful. Made me tear up. Fresh starts - what a wonder!
Beautiful, Rachel. I’m going to start using that phrase with the boys.
