I had an older mother. I just now reached the age she was when I was born, but I was done having more kids a while ago. I've often thought of how hard it would be to have a baby at this age.
But you remind me of the joys that come from parenting out of maturity, rather than youth. And the amazing discovery of each child's personality - the things that make them so essentially unique.
The way you describe her reminds me of Kit from the Literary and Potato Peel Society. My all time favourite book. The author captures the confidence and imagination of youth. It's beautiful
This is breathtakingly beautiful. I do not know how I found you, but I'm glad I did. I look forward to your reflections and when I catch you in my inbox, I always feel panged with nostalgia for the very ephemeral moments of mothering young children. Keep writing and reflecting; you bless others with your words!
Love this. I often think, if I had another baby now vs then, how different it might be...I might be. By the way, I think your little Hilde would be friends with my niece and nephew if they knew each other!
You are wise indeed, Rachel, to take in as much of the wonder of childhood as you possibly can. I did have two of our children in my late 20s, the third just before I turned 31. Such busy days--I didn't take enough time to enjoy their imaginations, to play with them, and do crafts together. I'm doing my best not to let that happen with our grandchildren! I too marvel with them at each discovery--the cuteness of lady bugs, the rainbowed beauty of bubbles, the heavenly aroma of lilacs, and so much more. Happy soaking to all parents, grandparents, and anyone blessed with a child nearby!

Thank you so much Jen!
So beautiful, Rachel. These words breathe fresh air into my own season of motherhood, a season which has been harder than some others.
Needed this today. Soak in each moment.
