I had been feeling for days that something was wrong, as was praying. I read this post holding my breath, multiple times. You are all three in my prayers. I hope he continues to mend, and comes home soon. Love you all.
Thank you so much for sharing this intimate week with us on Twitter and in your newsletter. It has been a joy to sit with you and for you in prayer, and now we get to rejoice in God's healing and restoration with you. But mostly, thank you for that last phrase - He loves you more than fledglings or flowers. He cares. It brings such courage! Love and hugs to you all.
Oh my heart. I read this AFTER your Summer Baby poem and now I see how grief and loss and trauma are compounding for your little family right now. It’s too much, isn’t it?! Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy! (And also Thank You for mercy already bestowed in spared life and a community that comes round to care for Hildegard)
So beautiful. I can tell you what my tiny tots who carried and slept with books have grown into, perhaps it can give a glimpse into your future. My almost 15 and almost 9 year old duo (twins) take books everywhere they go, and yes still sleep with them. I gave up long ago trying not to "ruin" books-our books have dirt and food splatters or smears (turning pages can be messy) in surprising places (not to a point of being gross, just, life happens when you're reading 🤷🏼♀️. I've gotten surprised and judgemental looks in public when saying things to my small child like "this is your last chance l, if you want a say in your schooll supplies you'll need to stop reading for a minute and work with me" (said to the office 5-6 year old devouring a new to her book she'd just chosen from the book section a couple aisles away...by the time I made it to the checks and to buy it, it was definitely a used book 😂). Or our personal "favorite" currently, the wailing and anger from our almost 9 year old twins when they ask if they can have a "silly dinner" (aka books or kindles at the table) and we say no because we've been busy, barely seen them, missed them etc and are looking forward to the 5 of us sharing about our day/recent activities. I never knew raising readers could be so loud or complicated! I should have known, I was that kid too, but parenting it is a whole new choose your own adventure. It's a fantastic "problem" to have. ❤️
I read this whole thing with my heart in my stomach and tears in my eyes. Rachel you write so beautifully from your entire being!
What beautiful words. Praying for your precious family. Thankful your husband is healing.
This is beautiful. And I pray your husband is mending. God bless you.

You always bless me with delightful words and fun memories of the joy of being a toddler and mothering a toddler.
Thank you.
I'm thankful that Evan is mending.

Oh Rachel. How scary. Praying for complete healing now, for peace for all of you.
My heart! You all are in my constant prayers.
Oh, Rachel. Been praying for you all.
“God, please preserve his life. Let us keep him…” brought tears to my eyes. Profound. I’m so thankful that you get to keep him longer!

Beautiful and heartbreaking. Tears in my eyes must be due to the forest fire smoke shrouding our town. Yeah. That must be it.

Ah Rachel… written beautifully from a mothers heart … I smiled and cried all at the same time 💕
Courage - you and I share a similar journey. I am praying for you every step of the way...
keep your eyes on Christ and don't look down.💖
