The Possibilities of Flight
I tried again and again to get her
to lie still and look up at the
budding trees, but she only wanted
to bounce higher and higher still
on that trampoline, which caused me
to fumble my iPhone picture of the sky.
I could go on now to condemn myself,
technology, and screens, and you
might clap, maybe cheer, but the truth
is that we were both taking in creation;
a tired mom, on her back, noticing
the sun streaming through new leaves,
and a child, hovering just inches below
the Tower of Babel, but with humility,
and tiny tennis shoes thumping against
the possibilities of flight
and spring.
Beautiful, I know that to not fly requires nothing from me. To explore the possibilities of flight requires action. Action, even leading to no particular 'clear success' is more fun.
