Children Write Our Poetry For Us
Not one sugar snap pea
has matured beyond a day.
She checks her plant every
morning, plucking them
as soon as white flower
turns to skinny, green pod.
“It so yummy,” she tells me,
crunching away at what
she would never eat indoors
for dinner. There is just
something about planting
and watering and waiting
that makes everything taste
like hard-earned honey.
In witnessing her joy over
a vegetable grown in a
humble, white, laundry
soap tub, I believe, despite
many sorrows of my past
and of the Ages, that there
is good this side of heaven –
even glory – if just a taste,
in the waiting for our faith
to flower and ripen into
that one, eternal feast.
“There is just
something about planting
and watering and waiting
that makes everything taste
like hard-earned honey.” - so true!
This is wonderful! I also find my kids are more likely to try foods they help prepare in the kitchen with me. There's something about their being in on the process that makes it welcoming to them.
